Brewlab franchise
The Beer Academy and Brewlab Ltd, the brewing training company based at the University of Sunderland, have concluded a franchise agreement whereby Brewlab will offer the Beer Academy’s one day Foundation Certificate as part of its internationally renowned syllabus.
Brewlab, which already organizes courses in brewing, beer dispense and flavour analysis, will present the first franchised Beer Academy course in Sunderland on 10 th November. The course will be taught by Brewlab staff Dr Keith Thomas and Dr St John Usher using the Beer Academy’s presentation material. Students will receive the Beer Academy course notes and they will sit an examination at the end of the day’s training. The examination papers will be marked by the Academy and successful candidates will receive a Beer Academy Foundation Course certificate.
Brewlab’s director, Keith Thomas, comments “Co-ordinated beer education has been needed for many years. The Beer Academy courses offer an enjoyable and well designed opportunity for brewers, publicans and drinkers to gain an important overview of beer and brewing.
“Brewlab is keen to incorporate the Beer Academy course into its teaching programme and provide stand alone sessions. These will broaden the outlook of trainee brewers and publicans by providing a customer eye view of beer and help them appreciate how their beer is received in trade.”
George Philliskirk from the Beer Academy adds “Franchising our courses will allow the Beer Academy to expand at a greater pace, whilst allowing us to involve all those beer messiahs who have the knowledge, but not the course materials, to help spread beer education around Britain.
“So far, we have only scratched the surface, and the potential for beer education in Britain is massive.” Keith Thomas, Director of Brewlab:
